One of the several course outcomes for ENG 312 is to learn strategies for collaborating
with colleagues in online and culturally diverse environments. This course outcome is especially
useful in the real world because collaboration is something that never goes away. Throughout
life there are going to be things that have to be done with other people. Learning how to
successfully collaborate through this course and specifically this project will help secure these
skills for other situations down the road.
Throughout this project, I expect my biggest obstacle will be my busy schedule. As a seventeen year old early college student taking a full college schedule, as well as the manager of a local business, I rarely have free time. I expect this project to require a lot of my time, which is going to be difficult (but not impossible). Scheduling times with the group assigned will be an additional struggle, but with enough determination it will all get done. If needed, I could request shift swaps or days off from work, as well as reworking the free time I do have to efficiently schedule meetings and work time.
With the help of this project, I expect to learn even more in depth about a company’s social media presence. While I have already touched on a couple different companies and their presence on social media, this project researching Nest Realty will allow me, along with my group members, to really look at a relevant business and determine how their social media presence reflects on potential clients. I am hoping to see exactly how the effects of social media reflects on sales, and look at solutions to any issues regarding a company’s online presence.
The two major projects for the course have helped me in analyzing a company and their presence online. Being able to apply the knowledge we have gained from the textbook and videos has allowed me to better understand business writing and how to go about analyzing a business. Working hands on with this information allows for better understanding, and therefore better performance on this SL project for Nest Realty.
For this project, I expect Google drive to come in handy frequently, especially for the component of collaboration. Working with other students on campus can be difficult, especially when the class does not meet facetoface. With Google drive, conflicting schedules on campus are not as relevant. Being able to get on any computer with internet and be connected to the rest of the group and the group work is a great help. In addition to group text messages, this will be a major help in keeping all members of the group informed and included. In addition to technology, I believe the textbook is going to be a great source for information on how to better analyze Nest Realty in order to write an accurate report regarding their social media presence. Within this, I am still interesting in further researching the rhetorical appeals and seeing how they can effectively be used in order to positively impact a company’s online presence.

Finally, through this project I am expecting to gain or better my skills in collaboration, analyzation, research, and editing. Working with a group and using different ideas and perspectives will help with each aspect I want to better myself on, and I am excited to begin working.
